Swarms

May 2016 – Very small swarm in a hard to scoop area but it was successful.

June 2019 Swarm captured and rehived in top bar. Successful

July 2019 Selanders swarm. Queen Louise successful rehive.

June 2017 Watched this swarm leave the hive and fly 30 feet up to the nearby tree. First tried to offer a “baited ” swarm box with lemon grass oil. No luck. Tried to reach it from the tractor bucket..too dangerous – too high. Then remembered seeing a youtube (yeah youtube) video where a guy shot a line attached to an arrow over the branch. And that is what we did . Reversed the bow to reduce the tension so not to overshoot. Made a perfect shot after only 2 tries. Shook the line – shook the branches and the bees came raining down. They flew back up several times but finally I must have shaken the queen out and down to the waiting hive. Success.
